Hazel Miller is not just a great singer, "she is a force of nature!" quotes the Rocky Mountain News. Her voice has been called "stunning, moving and powerful." Hazel has been a sought after performer in Colorado for the past 24 years. Whether she is singing blues, jazz, pop, or Gospel, her voice charges the songs with a primal dose of genuine soul.
Hazel began her 38-year career in Louisville, Kentucky, where she rose to the top of the music scene. She opened for popular artists such as Mel Torme, James Brown, Temptations, Earl Klugh, Bob James and many others.

The city of Denver singled out Hazel as one of 150 people who make Denver a better place to live. This award was bestowed by the mayor on Nov 22, 2008 at the Colorado History Museum. She has been given several awards for artistic excellence: Best Independent Blues-R&B Recording- 2002; Outstanding Performer at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

The new musical "Sisters and Storytellers" starred an ensemble cast including Hazel in her first musical theater role. The musical was very well received. Before this production Ms. Miller appeared in "The Vagina Monologues" in Boulder and Denver, receiving a local award for "Best Local Star in a Theatrical Production.

Since moving to Colorado she has regularly performed with Big Head Todd and the Monsters. She was a regular performer on the ETown Radio Show, aired on NPR. She has performed at all the major jazz and music festivals throughout Colorado while maintaining a working band which won the Westword Readers Poll "Best Blues/R&B" band for three consecutive years, 1995, 1996, and 1997. She has sung with or opened for such artists as Julian Lennon, John Hammond Jr., Lucy Bleu Tremblay, Peter, Paul and Mary, Stanley Jordan, John Mayall, Charlie Musselwhite, Leo Kottke, Bob Weir, Herbie Hancock, Pop Staples, Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Nil Lara, Roger Clifton, Nancy Griffith, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Lonnie Brooks, Lou Rawls, Rickie Lee Jones, James Taylor, Spyro Gyro, Joe Sample, Little Ed and the Blues Imperials, Michael McDonald, and many more.

Mile High Scenesters
Mile High Scenesters
The mission of MHS is to provide a community-based platform for youth music programs in the Mile High area by fostering an environment of creativity and mentorship.

Mile High Scenesters was formed in 2012 after a group of music loving acquaintances came together through a very successful benefit held for long standing family members of the Denver music community after they had suffered a personal tragedy. This group found they had an undeniable chemistry along with their mutually shared love and passion and involvement in the local music community and decided they wanted to do so much more!

Rock it Forward Fund
Rock it Forward Fund
The Rock It Forward Fund provides resources in the name of Joe Leslie, a dear friend who passed away in 2012 as the result of a heart attack, at the young age of 41. Joe had many interests and many talents, but at his core he was a musician – music was his true love. He would have wanted his legacy to be the enablement of others to share that love. The resources that RIFF has generated over the past three years have enabled less fortunate kids to receive music lessons and musical instruments in Joe’s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.

For the past three years, the RIFF events have been held in St. Louis. This year, the event is being held in Denver, Joe’s home when he passed. In order to provide resources in the Denver area, RIFF has partnered with a local charitable organization, Youth on Record (“YoR”). YoR provides music education and performance opportunities to several hundred underprivileged kids in the Denver area…and RIFF is very excited to be partnering with this great organization.

Joe Leslie was born with “the music in him” in St. Louis, Missouri. His mother exposed him at a young age to a diverse collection of music from gospel rock to opera. His want for other musical experiences led to his picking up the violin in the fifth grade.
His ability to connect with people almost immediately epitomized the phrase “Joe never met a stranger.” Throughout high school his harmony with others increased. Joe joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at University of Missouri-Columbia. Here, his desire to learn music led him to pick up the acoustic guitar and he developed a repertoire of songs that all could sing.
His deep desire to play music followed him on the road when he was a Travel Director for Maritz. After he left Maritz, Joe settled in Denver, Colorado. His sense of rhythm and his natural skill in harmonizing attracted like-minded friends at informal gatherings. These friends formed the nucleus of a garage band that was started by Joe and would shortly become known in Denver as “The Schtuebs.”
Joe’s life was lived the way he wanted. He had many other successes in his life but music was one of his greatest…and his spirit lives on with the Rock it Forward Fund!
