It was initiated by Jeff Lambert and JC McKim, who met playing acoustically at a variety of open mics in Boulder. The musical spark ignited at a hot tub party (stick with me, ladies), when Jeff and JC didn’t even get into their swimsuits because their acoustic jam had become too legendary. From then on, the pair played at coffee shops, bars, and perhaps a few art galleries, all the while working on their own blend of original music, set apart by intricate guitar riffs and tight-knit harmonies.
The time came to expand, in which case they searched incessantly for ways to fill out the sound. They didn’t have to search hard, as drummer Matt Lowber was discovered just two doors down the street from Jeff’s house. The three searched for a bass player, and the revelation that is Sean Summers proved the value of Craigslist.
Sean came from the realm of pop-punk, Matt from the land of hip-hop, reggae, and R&B, JC from the world of blues and acoustic folk, and Jeff from the isle of jam-bands and funk. The four came together in a sort of reverse Pangaea, if you will, to create Slanted Jack in the fall of 2012. Slanted Jack has played a variety of venues, mostly in Boulder and Denver, but has traveled to Winter Park and even a festival near Las Cruces, New Mexico. What lies ahead is uncertain, but it is certain to be filled with progressive music and unique collaboration.
