Out To Lunch
Pushing the depths of the underground jazz scene, cutting edge New York City-based Out to Lunch will be releasing its third album, No One Left Behind, on one of the finest indie record labels, Mesa Recordings. Tracks such as “In Da House” and “It’s a Jungle Out There” move effortlessly from the world of funk to breakbeat, from dub to house, creating a sound that hits both the mind and feet. Out to Lunch has not only established itself as a mainstay on the New York scene, but has toured extensively through North America and Europe. Billboard magazine has called Out to Lunch, “a distinctive brand of funk…expanding the range of the listener’s experience,” while the Village Voice has hailed Out to Lunch as an, “ambitious and funky groove-prov octet.”
Biography of Musicians
Canadian-born multi-instrumentalist David Levy is the founder and leader of Out to Lunch. David has released three albums with Out to Lunch, Excuse Me While I Do the Boogaloo, Melvin’s Rockpile (Accurate Records) and No One Left Behind (Mesa Recordings). He can also be heard as a sideman on Verve Remixed 3 (Universal Records), as well as on the Junior Boys, It’s All True, Beyond Dull Care, So This Is Goodbye, and Last Exit (Domino Records). David plays bass clarinet, soprano saxophone, bansuri flute and Ableton Live.
Josiah Woodson received a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. It was there where he began touring with the “The Makanda Project” and sharing the stage with such acclaimed musicians as Oliver Lake, Yoron Isreal and John Lockwood. Woodson relocated to New York City where he plays trumpet, flute, and guitar in several bands including Out to Lunch, The People’s Champs and The SuperPower Horns, with whom he wrote and recorded material for the Grammy award-winning singer Beyonce’s latest album, 4 (Columbia Records).
New York-based pianist & keyboard player Walter Fischbacher has worked with jazz luminaries such as Randy Brecker, George Garzone, Ingrid Jensen, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Chico Freeman, Tim Lefebvre, Joel Rosenblatt and the Vienna Art Orchestra. Originally from Austria, Fischbacher relocated to New York in 1994, where he, in addition to his work as a musician, manages his own recording studio and leads his band, “Phishbacher.” His most recent release Proove That! (Lofish Music) has been called “inspired” and “super funky” by international jazz reviews on both sides of the Atlantic.
A native of Montreal, Canada, Zack Lober is a bassist, composer and DJ currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He is a co-founder of the groups “The Story” and “Byproduct” and an active bandleader under his own name. As a sideman he has worked in groups led by such musicians as David Binney and Donny McCauslin, and has toured Europe, Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Lober holds a Masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music
Drummer Jason Kruk’s touring and festival appearances cover a diverse range of musicians including work with MCA recording artist the Jay Quinn Band, B and the Buzz, Mojo Perry, Grammy-Award Winner Jeff Eckels, Ken Peplowski, David Liebman, A.J. Mallory (Rebirth Brass Band), Donny McCaslin, Gene Bertoncini, Wayne Krantz and Fima Ephron. Kruk’s debut, Leaving Saturn, was released May 2009. Kruk has worked throughout the United States and Europe, and currently resides in New York City.

Whodunnit
Whodunnit (WDI) – We are a local act that plays a mix of psychadelic jam rock infused with funk, and alternative accents. We have been playing together as Whodunnit for close to a year, but we have all jammed together for 2 or 3 years. Our sound is dynamic, tight, and will keep you guessing at whats coming next.
We's Us
We's Us may be know to "pack the most possible over-the-top guitars solos ever into a single set." The band's heavy-alternative-rock sound is never lacking energy or content. It is heavy without dwelling on cliche'd power chords, but melodic without being too "jazzy". We's Us reserves the right to delve into musical explorations at any point in any of their songs. If they do that, they promise to rock.
We's Us was formed from the melting pot that is the Denver music scene. Started by Michael "Weeze" Dawald, the members of We's Us have played together under many different names and decided to create something new. All of the members come from wide-ranging musical backgrounds and geographic regions.

Jackson’s archives include his first CD First Breath which consists of original smooth jazz compositions and memorable cover tunes. Jackson’s second CD titled Stowaway (on the Mothership) consists of funky original compositions. First Breath and Stowaway have both had airplay on KZKO's “A Funk Above The Rest” hosted by The Funktologist Skip Reeves and "The flavor of Jazz Cuisine" hosted by Charles Dottson. Jackson also has a tune of inspiration out called “Peace and Love”. Also Jackson’s CDs can be purchased at Twist and Shout Record store,Denver CO.
Doug Jackson has been performing, learning, and honing his skills for as long as he’s been alive; a luxury afforded to those fortunate enough to come from musical families. Growing up in Colorado, his stand-out, visionary talents became apparent early in his life. He won the Denver East High School Outstanding Music Award in 1973. After High School, Jackson went on to perform and record professionally with such legendary musicians as, the late Soloman Burke (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Grammy Award recipient), Joe Bonner (who played with such stand-outs as Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Max Roach).
Jackson enrolled at Knoxville College in 91 and studied full-time through 92 (Music Performance). Jackson went on to win acceptance into the prestigious Berklee College of Music (Boston) in 92 where he attended through 94. Berklee being the alma mater to such famous alumni as Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock (to name a few), Jackson learned with, played with, and further grew with the best, brightest and most talented musicians in the world.
In 94 Jackson toured the Middle East where he performed for the troops for the USO / Department of Defense. Upon returning to the states, Jackson put together a 5-piece jazz show band called The Untouched, which he fronted and gigged with for two years.
In 96, Jackson moved to Detroit where he performed with (among others) renowned sax player the late James Payton as a guest artist of James Payton and Impact 7. The band performed to big crowds at popular events, such as the Coachmans Blues Festival and the Deli in the Alley, hosted by Wayne State University. Poet, Wardel Montgomery Jr., from Detroit used Jackson’s recordings as the sound track for his poetry video. As always, Jackson continued to passionately write, polish and perform his own material.
Jackson moved to the Southern Tier of New York in 98 where he continued to work on honing his craft and offer private instruction. In 99, Jackson recorded First Breath: his first independent full-length album. The work was arranged by jazz all-star and long-time friend Joe Bonner, who also played piano on the recordings. The album was a triumphant success and a living testament to the diverse talents, genres, moods and styling’s in Jackson’s arsenal.
Jackson vacationed in Denver later that year. However, when the regional media learned of the Colorado natives return to the area, he was promptly pursued and interviewed by The Denver Weekly News (and featured on the publications cover) and by radio celebrity Rodney Franks on KUVO. Shortly thereafter Jackson was asked by CAM Productions in Denver to perform: that show was another triumphant success.
In 2010 Jackson started recording his second CD titled Stowaway (on the Mothership). This CD is all of Jackson’s original compositions. This CD introduces FUAZZ; where the Funk meets the jAZZ. Stowaway was reviewed by Howard Dukes of the world wide music publications SoulTracks (www.soultracks.com/Doug-Jackson-stowaway-review). Dukes gave Stowaway a “highly recommended” review.
Jackson has made leaps and bounds since returning to Denver. Jackson’s Stowaway CD release party was held at the renound nightclub Jazz@Jack's.
