Volunteer Funk Department
Volunteer Funk Dept. is a non-state-sanctioned institution of dedicated funk players working hard to keep jazz on the dirty edge of law-abiding. In last few years the VFD fellas have played packed shows and festivals with national touring acts like Animal Liberation Orchestra and jazz great Fareed Haque, as well as top regional acts including The Motet, Buckner Funken, Future Jazz Project, and many others.
This 5-piece instrumental act is comprised of drums, bass, guitar, keys, and saxophone. Members of the group have been active in the Denver scene for years, playing in groups like Flex Luther, 3Litre, Irie Still, and the Demon Funkies, and sharing the stage with national acts and all of the top regional acts. Members of the Volunteer Funk Dept. were one of the handful of bands selected to play the South Park Main Stage at the South Park Music festival.
