The Stolen Instruments

The Stolen Instruments began as a piano/guitar duo, playing coffee shops and bars around Denver. As a duo, the Instruments played a set of originals and cover tunes from their favorite artists, but found it difficult to develop a unique sound with only an acoustic guitar and piano. As time passed, a mutual agreement was made that there was a need to change things up a bit. Over the course of a year, a bassist, drummer, and female vocalist were added to the band’s lineup, and their sound began to take form. Soon after their first live show with the full band, the Stolen Instruments hit the studio. The band’s live show is comprised mostly of tunes penned by Ruben Martinez (piano, vocals, guitar) and Brett ‘Guy’ Stakelin (guitar, vocals, keys, producer), as well as an eclectic choice of cover songs. As the band progresses, they realize they found it hard to categorize their sound. The culmination of each band member’s influences and musical backgrounds leaves the final product with a fresh, clean, new sound, like none they had heard before.
