S.T.O.I.C. is made up of two MCs. MAINEVENT, who along with rhyming, provides the S.T.O.I.C beats. The Antagonist is the other MC. Their two individual styles lace any beat MAINEVENT throws out there. MAINEVENT encouraged The Antagonist to begin rhyming several years ago and he has developed his style over time. He is now one of the most serious and lyrical rappers out there. “A Gathering Of The Masses” is their first CD/EP. Seven banging tracks that include their anthem,“All I Wanna Do”, which not so politely tells record labels and concert promoters to pay them for their efforts. The deep and dark “Archenemy”, where The Antagonist cleverly spells his name out in the hook. “My Peoples” is a heavy drum driven beat with an erie organ. The Antagonist compliments the beat with a hook that is very catchy. The Dean Martin sampled, “Wam Bam” is one of their more popular songs with a “ragtime” sounding beat and the crooning of Dean Martin incorporated as the hook. Influenced by the sounds of mid 90’s hip hop, MAINEVENT has stayed true to his production style and sound. He has not fallen victim to what is considered the hip hop of today. Heavy bass, hard pounding drums laced with instruments that include just about everything. Horns, violins, guitar, anything necessary to create some of the most “intricate” and “layered” beats ever produced. “The Antagonist is always the first one to hear a new beat that I make. I’m my toughest critic, so if I don’t think something is tight, nobody is ever gonna hear it. I probably have 50 of those. I go back and work with them again eventually and sometimes they even become good enough to become S.T.O.I.C. quality. If I like it, then I give it to The Antagonist for the final approval. If he loves it, more than likely it makes it on our album. I’m lucky to have The Antagonist as my partner in ryhme. We have the same taste and idea of what we think is good hip hop and we don’t sway from that. I hold my own but I think he is the better MC, so I focus more energy on making sure our sound is unique and worthy of his rhymes” says the 6’ 4" MAINEVENT. Responsible for 100% of the production keeps MAINEVENT busy. “Eventually The Antagonist and I will co-produce something. He has tons of great ideas as well as plays guitar. We both would love to do movie scores also. Alot of the inspiration for my music comes from the orchestra music in movies”. Plans for a CD that was to include the seven songs from “A Gathering Of The Masses” has been scratched. They instead will focus their time on an untitled album that will include all new never before heard tracks. MAINEVENT feels that “the time is right to have a fresh and current album. Bush is out of the White House, so there will be new political topics from all over the world to rhyme about. There are new rappers to make fun of, new scandals and our own stories that could be books or movies, but we cut them down to 16 bar rhymes.” The best of S.T.O.I.C. is yet to come. The constant improvement of production and rhymes will make them popular with all types of fans. Probably only 20% of their fans are strictly hip hop listeners. The majority of there fans listen to other music genres. Although they may not be considered hip hop heads, they’re drawn to the unique hip hop sound of S.T.O.I.C. They perform shows with reggae groups, rock, jazz, hip hop and funk bands just to name a few. Their ability to appeal to different audiences makes them sought after by promoters.
