Death Hickey Blues

Early in 2008, Denver Singer songwriter Sam Pritchett called friend and former Falls Ruin frontman Nasir Malik asking for help with a writers block. Over the course of the following months, the two began writing and playing small shows, collaborating with a number of acoustic instrumentalists, generating a roots-americana sound running thick with the influence of modern bluegrass and indie-rock. When the duo, having recently adopted the name The Death Hickey Blues, began working steadily with Joshua Lee and brothers Brad and Willie Berryman; indie-rockers of Denver’s Color Reporter fame, the newly formed quintet, armed with four-part harmonies and a tight, dance-friendly sound, began immediately developing a following in the Denver and Ft. Collins college party scene, as well as in Denver’s thriving independent underground. Having spent the summer and much of the early fall of ’08 playing shows, the guys have taken some time now to focus on recording. While the upbeat pop grooves that emerged early on from the band will certainly continue to pump through the speakers both at their live shows and in the studio, the boys from DHB have begun to reach backwards towards their Americana and Indie-rock roots for inspiration in the coming months. With a short demo EP nearly complete and a full length album set to drop in June of ’09, The Death Hickey Blues promise to be the next big thing out of Denver. ******DHB has recently begun working closely with Good People Productions, a Denver based promotion and representation agency.
