BELLA MUERTE

Though it may appear that Kansas City band Bella Muerte has only recently taken flight, the 6-piece has actually been hard at work for much longer than they would like to admit. Originally forming in 2008 with only four members on guitar, keys, drums, and bass, it would take another 2 years before the final line-up as seen today would be solidified. “We knew the kind of level of musicianship we wanted from each other was pretty high, so when we had auditions for other members we refused to just settle for anyone that wasn’t ready to make music their first priority,” says founding member and keyboardist Bret Liber. Starved for live performances and touring, Bella Muerte was able to make the most out of their long-time coming by honing their songwriting skills and perfecting their live show.
At some point or another, each member of Bella Muerte has had to make the tough transition from being an average musician practicing in the basement to turning music into their life and passion even while attending school and working regular jobs. Full-ride scholarships, Los Angeles music opportunities, and social lives have all been abandoned in favor of making the band a success.
After hearing Bella Muerte and witnessing their live show, it’s easy to see how all their time and hard work has paid off. When attending a live performance, don’t be caught off-guard when experiencing heavy and fast guitar driven rhythms and huge screaming synthesizer sounds; both often appearing in the same song. Having just made an EP to help cultivate their initial fan base, Bella Muerte is just getting started. The boys are staying hard at work creating a full-length album which will expand their already wide musical palette to the styles of classical, dubstep, and ambient electronica, all working together in a cohesive, unique style that Bella Muerte can call their own.
